Employees Live and Work Safely
Safety is paramount in all our decisions and actions. We proactively protect people and property. We believe safety is a reflection of a Company’s commitment to its people and to operational best practice; it is a leading indicator of operational turnaround.
In 2015 Mandalay Resources developed an Employee Orientation Handbook to familiarize employees with the shared values that are the essence of working at Mandalay Resources. It begins with a common vision and value set and discusses policies that we must all understand and apply in order to stay effective in our dispersed and diverse organization.
We believe that working at Mandalay Resources provides opportunities for employees to apply their talent in many ways whether it be by performing their daily tasks safely and completely, coming up with new ideas to save costs or increase production, working on project teams, or staying aware of colleagues’’ safety. Reducing our potential impact on the environment and working alongside our communities are shared values at Mandalay, regardless of where we operate.
Safety and Health
The purpose of the Safety and Health Policy is to guide all employees, contractors, consultants and visitors to the Company’s mine site in pursuing their responsibility, shared with the Company, to uphold the safety and health of everyone involved with Mandalay Resources.
Mandalay has adopted the DuPont Stop Observations standardized safety training system for employee safety awareness, in which employees learn vital skills to enable effective peer to peer discussions, in which people reflect on their own perception of risk and how it compares to that of others. All sites have implemented this system and are engaging with the process on an ongoing basis.
|Lost Time Injury Frequency Rates (LTIFR) are measured and monitored at all Mandalay sites. Since 2009, Mandalay has seen a consistent decline in LTIFR and an increase in spending on safety related training.|
Performance Training and Education
In 2015, the Company spent $325,587 and a total of 32,212 employee-hours on internal non-safety training. Please see the chart below to see the Company’s training and education spending and hours since 2010.
Mandalay believes strongly that employees should feel personal satisfaction that comes with high performance and recognition. In 2016 we are engaging with GMs across all sites to conduct a Company-wide survey to gauge:
- The degree to which employees are performing highly in their collaboration with each other and are satisfied with their work
- The degree to which employees feel recognized for their work
The scope and timing of this survey will be determined in early 2016.
In early 2016, the Toronto office informally asked guests during the PDAC week to write about what our values mean to them. “Writing on the wall” is an ongoing way we can interact with our colleagues on our values, incorporating them into our daily decision making.
Employee Resolution Process
Mandalay’s Employee Issue Resolution Process is designed to add focus and integrity to our process for discussing and documenting concerns of employees; ensuring concerns are directed to the proper person; and ensuring concerns are resolved in a timely way. Each General Manager is accountable for establishing a local Employee Issue Resolution Process for issue intake, response, and resolution. Employees always have the option of using the Whistleblower process (initiated in 2015) if the Issue Resolution process does not work for them.

The Whistleblower Hotline is designed for individuals to confidentially, and anonymously if preferred, disclose concerns or complaints relating to any wrongdoings at Mandalay Resources.
This global initiative was rolled out in the second half of 2015. To access the Whistleblower Policy in its entirety, please click here.
