Costerfield Wetland Planting Day
On September 2, Mandalay Resources held a community planting day to continue the development of a wetland to host local wildlife and create a place for the community to use. Mandalay bought the vacant farmland adjacent to the Splitters Creek evaporation facility in 2015, and so far has developed 4.5 acres into a wetland with 4,000 native trees and grasses fed by stormwater. The wetland is now home to frogs and ducks and over time will provide an important new habitat for local birds, marsupials, frogs, turtles and snakes.
The community planting day was a great success, and an opportunity for the media to see locals, indigenous and conservation groups and mine personnel working together on a community project. View the full news story and video interview with Costerfield’s Environmental Officer here
